Geologist Dennis Prince, director of exploration projects for Falconbridge and a vice-president of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), has died. He was 52.Born in Newfoundland, Prince was a career employee of Falconbridge, having joined the company in 1970 on receiving his bachelor of science degree in geology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He worked in Manitoba, the Atlantic provinces, the Dominican Republic, the Yukon and northern Ontario before coming to the company’s head office in 1993.Prince was noted for his advocacy work on behalf of the mining industry, as president of the Yukon Chamber of Mines and later with the PDAC and the Keep Mining in Canada campaign.He is survived by his wife, Glenys.A memorial service will be held at the Ontario Club in Toronto at 11 a.m. on Jan. 11. A scholarship fund will be set up at Memorial in Prince’s memory. Donations may be sent to the PDAC (34 King St. E., Toronto, Ont. M5C 2X8), payable to the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, Dennis Prince Memorial Fund, in trust.
