OBITUARIES — James Gaunt

A practicing geologist for more than 30 years, James Gaunt died recently after suffering a heart attack while on a moose hunting trip in the Gowganda area of northern Ontario. He was 58.

He participated in the opening of the Labrador Trough with Quebec Cartier Mining, first in exploration and then through the construction phase of the Mount Wright project until 1975. He then transferred to Toronto with U.S. Steel’s exploration subsidiary, Essex Minerals.

As an independent consultant, he worked in Ontario and northwestern Quebec, including in the Abitibi and Matagami camps.
