The first gold zone reported occurs in a sheared gabbro rock- type, and has been traced over a strike length of three miles in the Duder Lake area.
Three widely spaced gold showings have been trenched at different locations along the shear structure. The most northerly showing, situated in a stream, has yielded grab samples grading up to 0.90 oz gold per ton. Another occurrence in the shear zone returned a channel sample assay of 0.39 oz gold across 8.6 ft. The most southerly showing, nearly 2,300 ft to the south, assayed 0.08 oz gold across 11.9 ft.
The company said further trenching will be conducted in order to delineate better all three showings prior to drilling.
A second poorly exposed shear zone has been discovered in another area of the property, and selected grab samples have yielded assays up to 4.85 oz gold in that zone. One channel sample returned an assay of 0.133 oz gold across 3.6 ft. Prospecting and trenching are in progress over the showing area.
Noranda, operator of the Grubline project, has been conducting a surface program of soil sampling, till sampling and prospecting on the property since 1983. A budget of about $1 million was set by the partners for this year’s work with emphasis placed on finding large- scale, gold zones for detailed follow-up work.
An unusual antimony anomaly also has been found by Noranda on the property, and trenching and sampling are under way. Assays of up to 20.3% antimony over 3.3 ft are reported. The antinomy occurs as massive veins of stibnite ranging in width from 0.7 to 3.3 ft.
On Noront’s Chisholm Island property, in the Sioux Narrows area of northwestern Ontario, additional drilling is planned to follow up a previous intersection which graded 0.42 oz gold, 1.42 oz silver, and 0.65% copper over a 7.9-ft width.
Prospecting this summer came up with one sample grading 0.11 oz gold at a site 1.5 miles away from the anomalous drill intersection on the property.
Exploration programs on four properties held jointly by Noront and Central Crude (TSE) in the Mishibishu Lake area of Ontario are also under way and results are expected soon.
