Noranda takes on California project

A unit of Hemlo Gold Mines (TSE) recently signed an agreement with Golden Queen Mining (TSE) enabling it to earn up to a 50% interest in the company’s Soledad Mountain gold property in Kern Cty., Calif. Noranda Exploration, which took over as operator of the project last December, is conducting a 32,000- ft. drill program aimed equally at testing new targets, known mineralized zone extensions, and infill drilling. The program is expected to be completed late this spring.

The property is reported to contain a gold deposit with reserves in all categories totalling 15.4 million tons grading 0.05 oz. gold per ton. Metallurgical and environmental activities are in the advanced stages.
