Noranda takes 100 tons from Central Crude bet

Noranda Inc. (TSE) is taking out a 100-ton surface bulk sample from five test areas on the No 6 and No 8 zones in the Mishibishu Lake area. Located 30 miles west of Wawa, Ont., the property is being explored in joint venture with Central Crude Ltd. (VSE).

The bulk sampling is part of a major surface exploration effort which has seen more than 150,000 ft of diamond drilling completed (N.M. Sept 12/88).

Central Crude says that of seven drills on the property, five are testing sections of the main No 6, 7 and 8 zones. This work includes drilling to depths of 2,000 ft. The remaining two rigs are drilling geochemical and geophysical targets three miles east of the No 8 zone.

Results from 47 holes drilled recently have been released by Noranda, which operates the exploration program for Central and Hemlo Gold Mines (TSE). Hemlo, an affiliate of Noranda, has a 60% interest in the property. Some of the better results are listed below. Hole IntersectionWidthGrade (ft)(ft)oz au/t 157 803.5- 810.7 7.21.28 176 714.6- 721.2 6.63.69 825.0- 836.211.20.91 180 727.9- 736.9 9.00.36 186 755.0- 759.9 4.90.88 188 734.9- 744.6 9.70.37 190 563.0- 572.9 9.90.30 191 874.7- 878.7 4.00.79 214 494.8- 508.213.40.48 219 1083.7-1099.816.10.90

Of the 47 holes completed, 33 yielded significant gold values, Central Crude says. However, of the 33 holes, 25 holes intersected gold mineralization across uneconomic widths averaging less than 4 ft.

In addition to drilling, Noranda is also improving site access by upgrading a 12-mile road. A permanent camp for 50 people is also being constructed.
