Noranda Inc.’s Research Centre at Pointe Claire, Que., now celebrating its 25th anniversary, has been re-named the Noranda Technology Centre, to reflect the role it plays in developing the technology that the company says “is the key to Noranda’s competitiveness in world markets.”
The 140 people on staff at the Centre were on hand recently for special anniversary celebrations, along with such notables as Pierre Coulombe, assistant deputy minister, Quebec’s ministry of commerce and technological development.
Peter Tarasoff, Noranda vice- president and chief scientist at the Centre, says planned total expenditures at the Centre in 1988 are up 37% from the previous year. The Centre employed only 35 people at the time of its inaugurat ion in 1963.
The Centre has become a “highly respected institution on the Canadian research and development scene,” Tarasoff said.
