NEWS ROUNDUP — Sleeping Giant startup planned

The Sleeping Giant gold mine north of Amos, Que., is on schedule to recommence operations in May, Aurizon Mines (TSE) reports.

The mine will operate at a monthly production rate of 14,350 tons from June onwards. Gold production is estimated to be 23,000 oz. this year and 35,000 oz. for 1994.

Cambior, project operator, earned a 50% interest in Sleeping Giant through work expenditures totalling $12 million.

Aurizon says it will have to fund about $1 million worth of preproduction costs by May.

On the exploration side, the companies are extending a drift from the 20 vein to the 30 vein; the 30 vein is 350 ft. north of the 20 vein.
