NEWS ROUNDUP — Ferrochrome plant subject of study

A study on the proposed construction of a ferrochrome plant in Tracy, Que., is expected to be completed early in 1993, says Ressources Minieres Coleraine (ME).

Coleraine and provincial utility Hydro-Quebec have commissioned Sideloy Inc., a firm of consulting engineers, to study the economic and technical feasibility of building the plant adjacent to the town’s Atlas stainless steel operation.

The study will evaluate any gains in electrical efficiency resulting from use of molten ferrochrome from the Coleraine plant, rather than solid ferrochrome, in the manufacture of stainless steel at the Atlas mill. Coleraine is developing chromite properties in the Eastern Twps. area of the province.
