New silver zone uncovered by Holmer at Cuban project

A new silver zone, known as the Loma Hierro prospect, has been discovered by Holmer Gold Mines (ASE) on its Dora Francisco project 30 km west of the city of Pinar del Rio in western Cuba.

Trenching and vertical drilling have outlined a flat-lying oxide silver deposit amenable to open-pit mining. The mineralization is part of an extensive limonite gossan area coincident with an induced polarization (IP) anomaly. A previous hole (P.27) intersected 309 grams silver per tonne, 3.85% zinc and 1.65% lead over 8.5 metres at a vertical depth of 25 metres. The recent drilling tested an area measuring 150 by 75 metres, centred around Hole P.27. Significant results include 373.8 grams silver over 8.55 metres in Hole P.39, 143.3 grams over 8.75 metres in P.38 and 134.9 grams over 3.9 metres in P.40.

The portion of the zone tested by drilling to date averages about 250 grams silver over a thickness of 7-8 metres.

Loma Hierro represents a stratiform style of silver mineralization, with barite, in a nearly horizontal sandstone-shale sequence. IP and magnetometer surveys indicate that the mineralized unit could extend a significant distance

to the southeast and west. A recent road cut, about 75 metres northeast of Hole P.27, exposed barite mineralization in highly oxidized material, which may represent a northeast extension of the silver zone. This area is being trenched and cleaned for sampling.

Elsewhere, on the San Fernando project in central Cuba, ground follow-up work is in progress. The work involves geochemical and geophysical surveys on anomalies recently identified by an airborne electromagnetic survey.
