New gold occurrences discovered in Red Lake

In addition to examining former gold producers and developed prospects, much effort has been directed towards new and unexplored gold occurences. For example, St. Joe Canada and Nexus Resources have outlined 800,000 tons of rock with 0.13 oz per ton gold on Horseshoe Island on Birch Lake, 60 miles northeast of Red Lake.

Also worth mentioning are a number of companies which have large exploration programs in the Red Lake area. These are Gold Fields Canadian Mining, Placer Dome, Goldquest Exploration, Black Cliff Mines, Noramco Exploration, Noranda Exploration Co., Parvus Mines, Sherritt-Gordon Mines, Interquest Resources and Red Lake Sun Valley Resources, to mention a few. Exploration in 1988

Exploration should be active in the Red Lake area this year. Here are some of the sites where we can expect to see activity:

* Golden Terrace Resources has now defined 200,000 tons of ore at the Kostynuk mine and will continue drilling in order to expand these reserves.

* Massive and Agassiz have doubled the known reserves at the Twin Gold mine and are committed to exploring this property underground.

* Zahavy will continue its underground exploration of the Berens River mine.

* Red Lake Buffalo Resources has initiated an underground exploration program at the Buffalo mine site, near Red Lake.

* Noramco is now drilling the Cable prospect, on White Horse Island in Red Lake.

* Canadian Nickel Co., which now controls Wilanour Resources, will re-examine the Cochenour Willans mine.

Other underground exploration programs are being considered and may be initiated in 1988.
