A new 2-phase drilling program is under way on the Douay gold property in Quebec’s Casa Berardi area by project partners Inco, Societe d’Exploration Miniere Vior (ME) and Cambior (TSE). The trio recently caused a stir by reporting a discovery-hole intersection of 59.3 ft. of 0.23 oz. gold per ton (T.N.M., Feb. 19/90). Subsequent drilling during the next few weeks failed to match the initial assays.
The first phase of the new program will consist of 6,000 ft. of drilling. It will evaluate the gold mineralization on 100-ft. centres to a depth of about 400 ft. and along a strike length of 800 ft.
The companies say that assuming positive results from the first part, the second phase, representing 4,250 ft., will test the mineralization to a depth of 550 ft.
The area being drilled sits on the western side of the Douay Twp. property. Previous drilling elsewhere on the property indicated a preliminary reserve estimate of 557,000 tons averaging 0.23 oz. in the central portion.
