Australian base metal miner MIM and its partner International Musto Explorations (TSE) report that 8,000 metres of core drilling has begun on their Bajo de la Alumbrera porphyry gold-copper deposit in northwestern Argentina.
Two rigs are being used and the program, which is being carried out by Minera Alumbrera (the operating company of the joint venture), is expected to be completed by Oct. 1.
The work is aimed at providing infill grade and tonnage information for upgrading reserves; it will also entail investigating ore extensions at depth below 400 metres, particularly in the southwest corner of the deposit where previous drilling indicated a high-grade zone.
Meanwhile, a bankable feasibility study on the deposit is progressing on schedule and negotiations for bank financing are continuing.
