Last year was a milestone in the 16-year history of the Mining Research Organization of Canada. MIROC, the oldest research organization sponsored by the mining industry, has emerged from its partial dormancy to be increasingly active in research.
During 1990, the Williams Operating Corp., American Barrick Resources and LAC Minerals joined the organization as new corporate members. The other three member companies are Falconbridge Ltd., Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting and Noranda Minerals. Membership fees, $20,000 each, help to fund research projects.
Currently, research is being conducted on spray-on linings at Queen’s University, the work boot and the vibration damping rock drill handle.
