Mine closures outstrip openings

Mine closures outnumbered openings in Canada by almost 2:1 last year as low metal prices and flat markets battered mineral producers nationwide. According to Energy, Mines and Resources Canada, 33 mines were closed or suspended last year while 18 were opened (T.N.M., Apr. 13/92).
