Manitouwadge miner takes cabinet post

Gilles Pouliot, 48, MPP for Lake Nipigon, has been appointed mines minister for Ontario. Pouliot, a miner who has spent the last several years in Manitouwadge, Ont., will take over from the former mines minister, Hugh O’Neil. Born in Montreal, Que., Pouliot was first elected to office in 1985 and served as the New Democratic Party critic for mines, native affairs, northern transportation and northern development. He is married and has no children.

Pouliot was also named the minister responsible for francophone affairs.
