Lawyers representing Madeleine Mines (TSE) will appear in court in Thunder Bay, Ont., May 7 to answer charges brought about by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. The Toronto-based company was scheduled to speak to the charges in a provincial offences court April 16. But Edward Greenspan, the lawyer representing Madeleine, has obtained an adjournment to allow him to receive full disclosure of the allegations launched by the ministry.
Madeleine and President Patrick Sheridan are charged with several counts of operating the Lac des Iles palladium/platinum project near Thunder Bay without permission from the Ministry of the Environment.
The charges include two counts of establishing a sewage system without approval and constructing equipment that could discharge contaminants into the environment.
According to Jim Bagshaw, supervisor at the ministry’s investigations branch, Madeleine is continuing to operate the mine without a permit.
