LETTERS TO THE EDITOR — Minister backs standards talks

In response to your editorial “Anyone Listening?” I am writing to assure your readers that the government is listening.

As minister of northern development and mines, I am well aware of the importance of resolving the issues around the Mining Standards Task Force to maintain Ontario’s status as the mining finance capital of the world.

In particular, my ministry intends to address the recommendation regarding Qualified Persons, and take the necessary action within government to reach a satisfactory resolution. My staff have already met with representatives of the Association of Geoscientists of Ontario and the Toronto Stock Exchange, and will continue to work with them on this issue.
