Letters to the Editor Miner ignores changing times

I am amazed by your editorial “Focus on Canada’s potential” (T.N.M., March 19/90). Your criticism of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada is uncalled for. First, you ignore what is obvious to everybody: the world is rapidly shrinking, and Canadians in all walks of life must seize appropriate opportunities to learn about the experiences of other countries. Second, the PDAC runs a first-class convention of international acclaim, which focuses extensively on Canada’s potential. Third, the devotion of one afternoon, during a 3-day convention, to international aspects of exploration does not constitute a disproportionate emphasis on experiences abroad.

The PDAC and The Miner have served Canada well. The PDAC is moving from the ’80s into the ’90s. It appears that The Miner would rather have the PDAC move from the ’80s into the ’70s. That doesn’t say much for the direction which The Miner is taking. R.B. Parsons Oakville, Ont.
