LETTERS TO THE EDITOR — Mine permits in South Dakota

In the article “Wharf deal frees up Golden Reward reserves” (T.N.M., June 22/92), Martin Quick was reported as saying that securing mine permits for the combined deposit should not pose a problem. Although Mr. Quick implied that permits for this area were obtainable, this was not meant to suggest that acquiring them in today’s delicate political climate would be without its own site-specific problems.

I’m sure The Northern Miner appreciates how sensitive these issues can be in a time of long-awaited negotiations and transferring of permits. It is Golden Reward’s concern that the public may prejudge our intentions to potentially affect the adjacent recreational properties without access to a finalized land-use plan for this area.
