I can say without hesitation that Mr. Cummins, as president has guided McFinley in a very professional manner. He believes, as I do, that the McFinley property could someday be a significant high-grade gold mine. He also recognizes the fact that the high-grade gold mines in the Red Lake camp were generally difficult to evaluate in terms of grade and reserves during the initial years of discovery. These gold mines started producing on a small scale largely because reserves were difficult to ascertain due to the coarse nugget effect. This is the reason why he took the initiative to go underground early, and for setting up a bulk sample plant on surface.
The famous Campbell Red Lake mine nearby had a shaky four year start before the “Mother Lode” was discovered. No doubt, the success achieved at Campbell can be attributed to courage, vision and willingness to take risks by the management. Not unlike the Campbell Red Lake mine, the status of the McFinley property requires a leader that has the same courage, vision and persistance and, that, Mr. Cummins has.
The McFinley property is known to contain a number of high-grade gold-bearing shoots along a strike distance of over 1.5 miles in a similar geological environment to that found at the Campbell, Dickenson and Cochenour Mines. Only a small fraction of this strike length has been tested by drilling or investigated from underground. Most of the drilling to date has been at shallow depth. McFinley has been successful in outlining numerous significant targets that require follow up. As per your article, the large fund requirement that it indicated, is for the continued exploration of these zones.
Mr. Cummins and his capable staff are currently being guided by a number of well respected geological consultants. These consultants are more familiar with the Red Lake camp than I and there is very little more that I can contribute geologically.
Let me say that the shareholders of McFinley, and that includes myself as a shareholder, have a president that has their interest at heart, especially during these most difficult times for the junior gold exploration industry. Raymond J. Mongeau President Golden Shield Resources Toronto, Ont.
