Graphite producer Applied Carbon Technology (VSE) is closing its mine and mill near Kearney, Ont.
President W.C. Esterly cited financing difficulties and soft graphite prices as the prime reasons, adding that the complex will reopen once the economy improves and additional funding is secured.
The company’s graphite processing and distribution facility in Brocton, N.Y., will continue to operate, utilizing current inventory and other graphite sources.
Applied Carbon, formerly known as Cal Graphite, began producing graphite at Kearney in August, 1990.
