During the 1-year period July, 1991-June, 1992, almost $19 million of assessment work (dollars spent) for mineral claims was submitted in Ontario, the province’s Ministry of Northern Development and Mines reports.

Of that total, almost 37% ($6.9 million) was submitted for the Larder Lake mining division in northeastern Ontario.

The number of claim units (a parcel of block claims permitted under the provincial Mining Act, as amended in 1992) increased by more than 18% between July of last year and June, 1992, compared with the previous 12-month period. During the same period, the number of claims cancelled is down by about 71.5% and the number of active claims has jumped by almost 11%.
