With copper production underway at the Ok Tedi mine in Papua New Guinea, and a couple of new gold and base metal mines in the pipeline, there was little danger than shareholders at Metall Mining’s (TSE) first annual meeting would nod off during the proceedings.
But President Dr Klaus Zeitler found other reasons to be content with his company’s first year in operation.
“I am very happy that I don’t have to make the same announcement as the speaker at another first annual stockholders meeting who said: “Ushers will now pass among you with Kleenex, smelling salts and a stiff belt for those in dire need.
“To the contrary, our first year was very active, we achieved good results and we see a bright outlook for the future.
“Incorporated last summer as the mining wing of West German metals giant Metallgesellschaft AG, Toronto-based Metall is currently attempting to expand its mining interests by making a major North American acquisition.
