Private Ontario explorer Juno Corp. has won the Bernie Schnieders Discovery of the Year Award from the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association (NWOPA) for its Big Thunder gold discoveries in the Ring of Fire.
Big Thunder, about 520 km north-northwest from Thunder Bay, covers the North Edge, Bridge and Pluto zones across about 20 km of previously undrilled greenstone belt. Juno has drilled 39 holes so far, including highlights of 3.9 metres assaying 78.9 grams gold per tonne from 104 metres depth at Pluto and 2.3 metres at 25.9 grams gold from 19.5 mertes depth at North Edge.
“We are thrilled to have discovered both high-grade visible gold and an extensive gold system in the Ring of Fire,” CEO Robert Cudney said last year when Juno first outlined the discoveries. The NWOPA presented the award at its April 8 annual ceremony in Thunder Bay.
The discovery system stretches 19 km and still has room to grow. Juno has started a 50-hole, 15,000-metre Big Thunder drilling program this year within a broader $20-million (US$14.6 million) exploration budget.
