Joutel expands gold resources in Cuba

New results have expanded the known gold resource at three Cuban projects of Joutel Resources (JTL-T).

At the Zona Barita project, the 28-hole third phase of drilling is now complete, and a prefeasibility study on open-pit mining and heap-leach gold recovery is under way. The latest drilling provided enough information to calculate an inferred minable resource, to be released in September.

A preliminary inferred resource, calculated in 1995, outlined 9 million tonnes averaging 1.63 grams gold and 3.6 grams silver per tonne.

The best of the latest assay results included 25.5 metres grading 3.47 grams gold per tonne, 19.8 metres of 2.49 grams, 12.6 metres of 2.1 grams and 13.5 metres of 1.66 grams.

At the Cobre Norte project, 1.5 km east of Zona Barita, three holes were recently drilled in order to test a geophysical anomaly similar to the anomaly at Zona Barita.

The first hole contained a 7.4-metre interval with 2.61 grams gold per tonne, the second had 7.9 metres of 1.13 grams, and the third contained 25.6 metres grading 1.94 grams gold per tonne. This new drilling has led Joutel to believe Cobra Norte could contain as much as 1 million oz. gold.

Finally, at Cobre Este, just 500 metres southeast of Cobre Norte, three new holes were drilled on an alteration zone with anomalous surface samples. Two of the holes intersected significant precious and base metal values similar to the mineralization at the producing Cobre copper mine, 1 km to the south.

The first of the two holes had a 3.25-metre intersection with 0.11% zinc and 2.65% copper, plus 14.19 grams silver and 1.19 grams gold per tonne. The second hole had a 5-metre intersection with 5.34% zinc and 0.45% copper, as well as 2.03 grams silver and 1.05 grams gold per tonne.

Joutel is working with Cuban state-owned Geominera on the above projects, and on several other exploration projects in Cuba.
