A recent letter from Mark Baknes (T.N.M., Feb. 17-23/03) makes it appear that I deserve some credit for Earl Jensen’s discovery of the original Wolverine showing. I was the crew chief of a 4-man prospecting crew from Vancouver-based consulting firm Archer, Cathro & Associates, which included Jensen. Bob Cathro and I staked the first claims on the showing in 1973, but credit for discovering the original showing is entirely Jensen’s.
Jensen was in a fly-in camp 5 km southwest of the area when he noticed a vegetation kill zone across the Wolverine Lake valley. His curiosity led him on a long traverse across the valley and outside his prospecting area, to find a small copper showing in the kill zone. Showings are fairly common.
Baknes and his team deserve the credit for recognizing the potential of the area and for finding the Wolverine deposit.
