Inco named recipient of conservation award

Nickel miner Inco was one of three recipients of the first International Great Blue Heron Award from the North American Waterfowl Management Plan.

The award, for outstanding contribution to conservation of wetland resources, was presented by Ducks Unlimited Canada to Inco’s Manitoba division in Winnipeg.

Inco earned its nomination by contributing $100,000 to Ducks Unlimited’s Lynch Point project northwest of Winnipeg, on the shore of Lake Manitoba. Contributions for the project, completed in 1991, totaled $500,000. The work involves managing wildlife in an area once plagued by unpredictable water levels.

The two other recipients were TransCanada Pipelines and Don Simkin of Ontario.
