Grassroots work begins in Labrador

With the recent spate of property deals near Voisey Bay, Labrador, starting to abate, initial reports from preliminary exploration programs are begining to trickle in.

Absolut Resources (ASE), which has been carrying out geophysical work in the area, reports that at least three of its claim blocks contain high-priority, coincident, electromagnetic-magnetic anomalies. In addition, gossans have been found to exist on one of the claims, in the area of the geophysical anomalies.

Absolut expects to have crews on the ground by July 1 to conduct ground geological and geophysical work with the objective of defining targets for drilling by August.

Joint-venture partners United Compass Resources (VSE) and Layfield Resources (VSE) report that helicopter magnetic and electromagnetic surveys outlined “extremely encouraging” conductors within a zone 2.4 km long and 1 km wide.

The joint venture’s holdings are 40 km northwest of Diamond Fields’ Voisey Bay discovery.

A second anomalous zone, with smaller dimensions but similar characteristics, was also identified, and the partners will try to identify the source of the electromagnetic anomalies.

At the Manvar project, about 10 km west of the Diamond Fields’ claim group, joint-venture partners American Manor (ASE) and Navarre Resources (VSE) have contracted a magnetic and electromagnetic survey.

The property was originally staked on a regional, geochemical anomaly of nickel, copper and cobalt.

A ground crew has started work on the 92-claim block immediately adjacent to, and west of, the ground held by Diamond Fields. Fleck Resources (VSE), owner of this land package, plans to carry out mapping and sampling, focusing on areas with coincident favorable geology and magnetic anomalies.

Fleck expects an airborne geophysical survey to be completed by month-end.
