Additional deep drilling by partners Noranda Exploration (51%) and Getty Resources (49%) has extended the strike length of the Tundra deposit by 450 ft. Located at Courageous Lake, N.W.T., the Tundra deposit has a minimum strike length of 4,750 ft and is known to dip to a vertical depth of 3,500 ft.
Hole 67 cut 63.8 ft grading 0.11 oz gold per ton. Another deeper section assayed 7.2 ft grading 0.16 oz. Hole 70, which with hole 60 form the two most northerly holes, assayed 1.51 oz in a 1.4-ft section. The latter assay was uncut, the partners say.
Hole 76 intersected one of the multiple zones at 2,273.6 ft. This section assayed 0.19 oz across 18.8 ft. The partners say that this section correlates with another section located 450 ft up-dip (drilled by hole 46) which intersected 63.3 ft grading 0.26 oz.
Three drill rigs are in operation and are scheduled to complete another nine holes by year-end. Following receipt of all assay results, the partners will perform a mineral inventory calculation.
Next year, a $25-million 2-year underground exploration program is scheduled to begin, pending receipt of a positive prefeasibility study. The work will include the sinking of a 1,500-ft shaft and the driving of two lateral levels. .N11
** HSK gold find south of Timmins **
A drill program conducted by HSK Minerals on the company’s Muskasenda Lake property has resulted in a gold discovery. The project is located in English and Beemer twps., 26 miles south of Timmins, Ont.
A 2,756-ft drill program intersected widespread anomalous gold values in an 80-ft-wide shear zone. The best results came from silicified sections of the shear carrying 5%-15% disseminated sulphide minerals. These results are listed below. Hole Interval Width Grade (ft) (ft) oz gold/ton 1 15.0-34.0 19.0 0.018 2 0.0-5.0 5.0 0.051
17.5-35.5 18.0 0.026 3 14.5-31.5 17.0 0.156 4 8.0-20.6 2.6 0.018
45.0-51.0 6.0 0.050 5 100.5-107.5 7.0 0.020 8 178.0-188.0 10.0 0.130 9 118.0-123.0 5.0 0.027 11 233.0-239.0 6.0 0.12
268.0-273.0 5.0 0.139
Although most of the results are uneconomic, the results are deemed encouraging as they are associated with a major shear zone striking for a minimum 3,000 ft. As a result of this initial success, hsk has staked an additional 232 claims which tie on to the original property. A 1988 drill program will test the entire strike length of the zone.
On the Vigrass Lake property near Kirkland Lake, Ont., the company has started a 4,000-ft drill program. The drilling will test a surface gold showing and several geophysical targets.
