Garnet’s the target for Cominco Resources

Garnet mining is expected to begin next summer at the Alder property, 60 miles southeast of Butte, Mont.

Owner Cominco Resources International (TSE) estimates reserves are sufficient for 30 years. A capital cost of US$8 million is projected for the 45,000-ton-per-year facility.

The project will produce no deleterious effects, as it essentially involves the treating of gravel. As an added bonus, the operation will serve to “rehabilitate and reclaim” land disturbed by a previous gold-dredging operation.

If all goes according to plan, garnet product will be available for market in the first quarter of 1996.
