Galactic suspends mining at Summitville

The company said the suspension was a precautionary measure arising from the discovery of possible problems with the leach pad embankment. Geotechnical assessments are now being awaited to determine if corrective action is required.

Galactic said mining operations would resume only after a positive assessment, provided it is satisfied that sufficient time remains in the mining season and provided that the price of gold has stabilized at a level to enable economic mining. In the meantime the company intends to continue normal heap leaching to produce about 2,000 oz per month.

Galactic has a 48% interest in the producing Ridgeway gold mine in South Carolina, as well as numerous advanced mineral projects in North American, China and the Philippines.
