Fraser Institute sponsors contests

The Fraser Institute of Vancouver is expecting about 700 entries this year for its “economy in government” competition.

Prizes worth a total of $40,000 will be awarded to the best proposals for improving the federal, provincial or territorial governments. The competition is in two stages. Initial proposals (1,500 words maximum) will be accepted until March 4, with finalists chosen by March 25. The finalists will then have until May 13 to develop full-scale plans based on their preliminary proposals.

The Fraser Institute also runs a companion competition, the “editorial cartoon prize for economy in government.” Like its parent, this contest concerns ideas about how the cost of government can be reduced without cutting government services. Prizes worth $2,000 are offered for the best editorial cartoons. The deadline is March 25.
