In French Guiana, Franc-Or Resources (ME) has completed a program of airborne geophysics as part of a gold exploration effort.
The 1,850-line-km program consisted of magnetic and radiometric surveys over a 300-sq.-km area in the Sophie-Saul district.
This area contains 170 sq. km of concessions under option from the Bureau de Recherches Geologiques et Minieres (BRGM). To date, BRGM has identified seven significant mineral occurrences and the surveys
have enabled Franc-Or to define these and other targets outside BRGM’s ground. The junior hopes to be granted concessions totaling an additional 400 sq. km surrounding BRGM’s ground.
Between 1950 and 1960, the area yielded more than 40,000 oz. gold from veins and shear zones associated with the northwest-trending Sophie-Saul lineament. In addition, the area has featured some alluvial gold production. The BRGM ground has been divided into two separate zones. Initially, field work will focus on the southeastern half of the concessions; later in 1995, the northwestern half will be explored.
