Exploration under way at Kirkton bet

A $750,000 exploration program is under way at Kirkton Resources’ (CDN) Shunsby base metal property, 130 km southwest of Timmins, Ont. Based on evaluation of more than 200 holes previously completed on the property, Kirkton will continue stripping and sampling to locate drill-indicated mineralization at surface. Drilling to test peripheral targets and downdip extensions will follow. Situated in the southern portion of the Swayze greenstone belt, the Shunsby ground is now accessible by road. Preliminary reserves contained within two chert-argillite units on the property are estimated to be 3.7 million tonnes grading 0.59% copper and 2.56% zinc, of which 3.3 million tonnes could be mined from an open pit. Kirkton is earning a 100% interest in Shunsby by spending $2.8 million on exploration and development and making cash payments totalling $250,000 by April, 1994.
