Junior copper-gold producer Aurex Resources (TSE) intends to concentrate its exploration efforts this year on the Talcuna district of Chile, as well as on various properties in Peru and Guyana.
Aurex controls 26,000 hectares in the Talcuna district and plans initially to focus on ground surrounding the Coca-Cola mine of Cobrex S.A. More than a year ago, Aurex acquired a 70% interest in Cobrex, which has mining assets in the Talcuna district situated 50 km east of La Serena. Aurex also has other producing assets in Chile. Last year, the company’s 70%-owned subsidiary, Compania Minera San Esteban Primera, processed 268,922 tonnes at an average grade of 0.96% copper and 1.84 grams gold per tonne from its three mines in the Copiapo area, about 850 km north of Santiago, Chile. This resulted in the production of 4.1 million lb. of copper and 13,059 oz. gold.
This year, Aurex plans to process 274,800 tonnes grading about 1% copper and 1.9 grams gold to produce 4.7 million lb. copper and 13,900 oz. gold. In January, some 22,824 tonnes grading 1% copper and 1.92 grams gold were processed, yielding about 403,000 lb. of copper and 1,250 oz. gold.
