One that particularly caught our eye was manufactured by Mitsubishi Metal Corp. — a set of “Golden Dream” golf clubs. Made of an alloy of bronze, nickel and gold, it sold at $214,000. That’s U.S. dollars, of course.

And some lucky householder awoke Christmas day to find a nice little addition to the kitchen, a 24-karat, gold-plated refrigerator. Sold at the Nihombashi Mitsukoshi department store, the fridge, measuring one metre wide by 1.7 metres high, is priced at a mere $6,285.
