“I learned the trade in Ireland when I went there to develop a mine that was going to represent 10% of the Irish economy — the largest mine in Europe — and I was in my thirties — and not one person in that country wanted that mine except the sponsors, my directors. “That’s where I learned politics.

“I had three years of training there. That’s probably the toughest school in the world.”
