Clearing Drawpoints
North Channel Engineering, near Sudbury, Ont., has developed Safe Shot blasting tubes to clear plugged drawpoints. Safe Shot consists of a self-tying, heavy-duty burlap blasting bag with a payload of 50 lb. (22.5 kg) of amonium nitrate fuel oil (anfo), cross rods, whistles and anfo tubes. Safe Shot is simple to operate. Simply tie the `b’ Line around the blasting agent and insert the anfo bag. Put the whistle into the bag and tie or tape securely. The poles are connected (using the j-lock) to the required length. The maximum recommended length is 72 ft. (22 metres). Rest the bag on ore near the blockage and blow anfo into the poles. A simple right-hand turn will disconnect the pole and the operator then detonates the charge.
Hydraulic Hammer
Rammer Oy has developed what it calls the fastest hammer in the world. The Rammer S21 is a hydraulic breaker that generates as many as 2,200 blows in a minute. Each blow delivers a consistent 175 joules of power. It does not slow down when breaking hard materials.
It is highly adaptable because of a wide oil flow rate of 20 to 50 litres per minute. It also accepts high back pressure of up to 30 bar. The 130-kg S21 can be mounted on carriers from between 1.3 to 3.2 tons.
The hammers are supplied in Canada by Kent Air Products.
