Drill program planned for Alabama property

Joint venture partners Orvana Minerals (TSE) and the U.S. subsidiary of Placer Dome (TSE) recently approved a US$150,000 exploration program for the Alabama Gold project in eastern Alabama.

Placer can earn a 75% interest in the property by funding all work to the completion of a final feasibility study.

Previous work on the property by Orvana included geological mapping, ground and airborne geophysical surveys and extensive geochemical sampling across an old gold mining district dating back to the 1830s.

Orvana, operator of the joint venture, notes that the work identified significant occurrences of gold in a major ductile shear zone where splays of the shear intersect a sequence of felsic metavolcanic rocks. Although the area is characterized by deep weathering and outcrops are rare, geochemical soil surveys indicate that the mineralized structures may measure up to 100 ft. in width.

Orvana expects to begin drilling on two separate targets shortly.
