Diavik team wins award

The federal team responsible for the overall review and water-licence process at the Diavik diamond mine, near Yellowkife, N.W.T., has been awarded for its efforts.

The award, presented by the Treasury Board, acknowledges the high standards demontrated during the review process. The mine is a 60-40 joint-venture between Rio Tinto and Aber Mines.

“This was a challenging project, involving extensive consultation with all levels of government and with aboriginal groups,” says consultant Neil Hutchinson, a member of the review team.

Markham, Ont.-based Gartner Lee Ltd. was responsible for environmental assessment.
