Recent evaluations of Ontario’s diamond potential indicate good potential for a diamond discovery in Ontario, particularly in the areas of Red Lake, Wawa, the James Bay Lowlands and River Valley.
That forecast, provided by none other than Dan Newman, the province’s minister of northern development and mines, is based on survey results gleaned by the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS), as well as Operation Treasure Hunt, a 3-year, $29-million initiative of the provincial government.
“These optimistic evaluations are providing a major boost for exploration,” Newman said, adding that many of the areas currently being explored for diamonds were first identified by OGS surveys.
The minister made his remarks at the recent Northwestern Ontario Mines and Minerals Symposium in Thunder Bay.
