Cyprus acquires interest in Mexican silver mine

Located in the Sierra Madre mountains, the project is Cyprus’ first involvement with a primary silver producer. The underground mine and flotation mill, which are presently operating, are expected to produce six million ounces silver per year with a small amount of byproduct lead and zinc.

Mill capacity is 1,600 tons per day at an average head grade of 17 oz silver. A number of potential orebodies are indicated on the property which bodes well for future expansion, Cyprus says.

Cyprus President Kenneth J. Barr emphasizes that the company’s growing interests in Mexico “are the result of the Mexican government’s activity to encourage investment to develop the country’s resources and the ability of U.S. companies to obtain favorable financing at this time.” Cyprus produces copper, coal, lithium, molybdenum, talc and barite and increasing amounts of gold and silver.
