Cross Lake drill program tests massive sulphide target near Timmins

Junior Cross Lake Minerals (CRN-V) has intersected significant massive sulphide mineralization at its Sheraton-Timmins property, 43 km east of Timmins, Ont.

The company collared 11 drill holes totalling 3,585 metres along a 1.6-km section of the Cross Lake polymetallic zone.

The zone is hosted by a cherty rhyolite, which stratigraphically overlies a sericitic and chloritic schist containing cherty bands and disseminated sphalerite with local galena.

Hole 16, drilled 132 metres east of discovery hole 1, intersected 33 metres (from 278 to 311 metres) grading 6.71% zinc, 1.86% lead and 0.16% copper, as well as 106.95 grams silver per tonne (cut to 342.8 grams per tonne) and 0.055 gram gold.

Included in this intersection were 6 metres (from 281 to 287 metres) of 18.4% zinc, 9.28% lead, 0.69% copper, 314 grams silver and 0.183 gram gold.

As well, native silver was found at a depth of 233 to 234 metres.

Hole 16 was drilled to a depth of 437 metres, with zinc mineralization continuing in a rhyolitic breccia below the 311-metre level.

Assays for the deeper portions of hole 16 are pending, as are several check assays.

The last hole in the program, 17, was drilled 66 metres west of hole 16 with the intention of intersecting, at the same elevation, the mineralization seen in hole 16.

Though assays are pending, hole 17 intersected 11.5 metres (from 250 to 261.5 metres) of cherty rhyolite and sericitized fragmental rock with bands of massive chalcopyrite up to 0.3 metre in depth, as well as chalcopyritic stringers.

Cross Lake says hole 17 shows that the volcanogenic massive sulphide system is intact and that the vent area (that is, the copper core) is west of hole 16.

In related news, Band-Ore Resources (BAN-T) is acquiring a 12-km long package of 238 claim units in Carmen and Shaw twps., situated 12 km west of Cross Lake’s discovery.

Band-Ore can earn a 100% interest in the claims by paying $500,000 cash over four years, issuing 80,000 shares over 18 months and granting the vendors a 3% net smelter return royalty, two-thirds of which Band-ore can buy back for $3 million.

Band-Ore’s land position in the area now totals 405 claim units comprising 16,000 acres.

The company plans to begin exploring the newly acquired claims shortly.
