Costs lowered at Dome mine

Cash production costs at the Dome gold mine of Placer Dome (TSE) at Timmins, Ont., averaged US$312 per oz. during the first six months of 1991, compared with US$444 for the same period last year, the company reported.

Workers at the Dome mine were on strike for six months in 1990. Placer reported a first-half average cash production cost (for all of its gold projects) of US$242 per oz., down from US$253 for the same period last year.
