Companies tie up ground near Sept-Iles

Base metal producer Noranda (NOR-T) and St. Genevieve Resources (SGV-T) have signed a letter-of-intent agreement on the Lac l’Aigle property near Sept-Iles, Que.

The 123-claim property is north-northeast of the recent nickel-copper discovery made by Quebec government geologists.

Noranda granted St. Genevieve a 20% stake in the claim block as consideration for being introduced to copper-zinc-nickel occurrences on the junior’s Lac Manitou project in the Sept-Iles region.

St. Genevieve will explore the Lac l’Aigle property in order to increase its participation in the project. The junior holds about 1,500 other claims in the region.

Some 50 miles west of Sept-Iles, Birchwood Ventures (BIR-V) has completed a BeepMat prospecting, blasting and sampling program at its Port Cartier property.

This work tested an area measuring about 400 metres by 1,800 metres near the northeastern portion of the claims. A number of conductors was identified and sampled by test-pitting. Copper values ranged from 0.32% to 1.87%, nickel values from 0.51% to 0.88% and cobalt from 0.06% to 0.14%.

Birchwood also carried out reconnaissance sampling at its Lac Mora property, 120 km north of the Port Cartier property. This work returned results of up to 1.1% copper, 1.22% nickel and 0.15% cobalt from grab samples of sulphide horizons. The junior intends to seek partners for these wholly owned properties.

The list of juniors active in the Sept-Iles region includes Altavista Mines (AIA-M), which acquired 150 claims through staking.
