A 75% interest in Saskatoon- based Amok Ltd. has been acquired by Cogema Canada, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cogema of Paris, France. Amok was 38% owned by the French Cogema parent and 37% by a Gogema parent affiliate, Mokta. (Pechiney Ugine Kuhlman holds the other 25%.)
Cogema Canada, with offices in Montreal and Saskatoon, reports it has spent more than $70 million exploring for uranium and gold since its incorporation in 1973. The company currently has a 36.4% interest in the Cigar Lake uranium deposit in Saskatchewan, which is being developed by Cigar Lake Mining.
With a 1987 budget of $7 million, Cogema Canada is exploring for gold in Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories, and for uranium in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Amok, incorporated in 1967, owns 80% of Cluff Mining. Since 1980, Cluff has been operating uranium mining and milling facilities in northern Saskatchewan. With a 1986 production of 800 tonnes uranium, Cluff has more than 15 years of proven mineable reserves. Cluff also recovers gold as a product of the reprocessing of the wastes from its early years of operation.
