CIM talks focus on El Abra, nickel

The El Abra copper project in northern Chile will be in the spotlight at a special presentation of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum (CIM).

Robin Hickson, president of Cyprus Amax Engineering & Project Development Co., will present an overview of the $1-billion heap-leach solvent extraction-electrowinning project at 12 noon on Nov. 21 at the Ontario Club in Toronto.

Also planned by the CIM is a discussion of the long-term growth of the nickel industry, scheduled for 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Board of Trade in Toronto.

The discussion will be led by James Borland, a former editor of The Northern Miner, who is currently editor of Nickel, a newsletter published quarterly by the Nickel Development Institute.

For more information on the El Abra presentation, contact Ben Kubica at (905) 888-1164. For information on the nickel discussion, contact Leonard Kilpatrick at (416) 204-1959.
