Chile’s Buchi to address PDAC convention luncheon

A former candidate for the presidency of Chile, Hernan Buchi, will speak at a luncheon on March 7 in Toronto during the annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC)

Buchi’s topic will be “economic transformation in Latin American countries: macroeconomic and sectoral reforms with an emphasis on mining.” Buchi worked for the Chilean government as undersecretary of the economy (1979-80), undersecretary of health (1980-83), minister of planning (1983-84), superintendent of banks and financial institutions (1984-85) and minister of finance (1985-89). He ran for the presidency in 1989. During the past decade, Buchi served either as chairman or board member of several Chilean public enterprises covering various enterprises. In 1990, he founded and became chairman of the Institute of Liberty and Development, a think tank.

Since 1990, Buchi has advised various governments in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia on economic policy. He currently sits on the boards of several private companies in Chile.

The PDAC convention will run from March 6 to 9 at the Royal York Hotel.
