Canamax stops mining at Matheson project

No further mining is planned due to disappointing underground drill results on the Lower Shoot and future activity will focus on surface diamond drilling of other gold zones on the property, the company said.

Since the first ore was shipped from Matheson in July, 38,756 tonnes of material has been processed through Cambior Inc. (TSE) Vezina mill in Destor Twp., Que. Between July and November the operation produced 5,386 oz gold.

The Matheson closure combined with the sale of Canamax’s 50% stake in the Yukon-based Ketza River gold mine means that the company has reduced its 1989 gold production expectations from 75,000 oz to 57,000 oz.

Canamax produced 32,000 oz gold during 1988.
