Canada co-operates with Chile

Canada and Chile have agreed to work together on efforts aimed at the sustainable development of minerals and metals. A memorandum of understanding on the issue is expected to be signed by the two countries later this year.

Canadian Minister of Natural Resources Ralph Goodale and Chilean Minister of Mines Sergio Jimenez met recently to share ideas on ways to promote prosperity while respecting the environment and the well-being of local communities.

The ministers also affirmed their support of the “safe-use principle” for minerals and metals, which involves managing the key environmental, health and safety factors related to the development of minerals and metals.
